Age-Friendly Event April 19

Bobsseniorbanter has learned the next event in the Age-Friendly Omaha initiative will be April 19 in conjunction with the opening of the new Omaha Public Library.

The 6 p.m. forum at the library on the day of its opening to the public will discuss inexpensive housing and other issues.

Omaha is seeking to become the third Nebraska city to join the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities. Grand Island and Lincoln were the first into the network.

In February, Omaha launched the initiative to address the needs of its older community members.

As a first step, the campaign has begun conducting a community-wide survey to evaluate the current age friendliness of the city.

Citizens are invited to give their perspective about the “livability” of Omaha by taking the survey at http://www.agefriendlyomaha.org.

For a paper version or for assistance completing the survey, contact hello@agefriendlyomaha.org or (402) 819-4885 Ext. 4.

An Omaha City Council Proclamation has stated “the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities provides a framework and a five-year cycle of continuous improvement to help cities identify community needs, develop action plans, implement inclusive policies, and evaluate progress.”
